Meet the trainers
Brittany Callihan, Owner/Head Trainer
Brittany holds a Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science with a minor in Business and brings over 25 years of hands-on experience in the horse industry. Her teaching philosophy is simple: she only teaches what she has personally done or competed in.
With a strong foundation in both English and Western disciplines, Brittany focuses her lessons on building well-rounded horsemen and horsewomen—starting with solid fundamentals. Her instruction emphasizes proper riding position, body biomechanics, and horsemanship, ensuring each student not only rides well but truly understands their horse.
Brittany currently competes in ranch pleasure classes with her own ranch horse and also shows CE's gaited horses in pleasure classes. Her diverse experience allows her to connect with riders of all levels and goals, whether they’re looking to ride recreationally or prepare for the show ring.
Justin Callihan, Trainer
Justin brings years of hands-on experience starting and training horses of all breeds, with a special focus on gaited horses. At Callihan Equine, he specializes in working with CE’s racking horses, both in their training and in helping riders refine their skills for the show ring.
Justin works closely with students competing in pleasure and performance racking classes, offering expert guidance to improve timing, feel, and ring presence. He is also an active competitor, regularly showing CE’s racking horses in both performance and pleasure divisions.
His deep understanding of gaited horses and commitment to proper training make him a valuable part of the CE program
Kelsey Carrig, Assistant Trainer
Kelsey is beginning her professional equine career by pursuing coursework and certifications in various equine rehabilitation modalities. Her passion for horses is matched by her love for teaching—especially young riders. Kelsey is dedicated to sharing the joy and responsibility of horse care, just as she experienced growing up in the saddle.
She focuses on teaching proper horsemanship, safe horse handling, and age-appropriate riding techniques. Her lessons often include fun, engaging games that reinforce foundational skills while keeping learning enjoyable for younger students.
At Callihan Equine, Kelsey also specializes in preparing CE Show Team members for in-hand classes, offering detailed instruction in showmanship and halter presentation. She currently competes with her two APHA horses at both local and rated shows in a wide range of classes including halter, showmanship, hunt seat, equitation, western pleasure, and horsemanship.
